8 - IN BETWEEN TIMES

It was an in-between time. We didn't ask questions, and they didn't mind.

“I need a pack of smokes.”

“Sure, that’s fine.”

Get pulled over? No DUI.

“Go on home, drive safe – say hi to the wife and the kids.”

The years rolled by, the rules got tight.

“You can’t have that. This isn’t right.”

The question is: who got to decide?

There's no end of the tunnel, there is no light – only board rooms in buildings with doors shut tight, to hide and rulers of day to day life.

LAST FLASH STORY - THE END

It was finally over. She hit the end button on the glowing telephone screen, tucked it in her purse and let out a sigh. It was warm, breezy and dark outside the confines of the car. She could tell he hadn’t wanted to say goodbye. Would he cry?

She looked at the ring on her finger. A single tear slid down her cheek. Getting out of the car she wiped it away and walked towards the bar. A tall, dark, handsome man smiled at her.

 

“Who are you?” he asked

She smiled for what felt like the first time in quite a while.

“I’m new in town," she lied. "How nice of you to ask.”

BAG MAN

“What’s in the bag, man?”

“Take a guess. Figure it out if you can," said the Mystery Man.

“Animal, vegetable or mineral; give me a clue.”

“It’s not a rock, or sand. It doesn’t fit in a shoe.”

The Mystery Man reached into the bag, pulled out a gun and fired two to the head.

JUST BREATHE

I like it when my mind is quiet. You should try it. Here’s what I do. Take one deep breath in and exhale on the count of two.

Forget about the future and let go of the past. You don’t have to go fast.

Let go of words. Let go of memories, numbers and plans. Wash your hands of everything.

Then onto the next moment, and the one after that and let a feeling of gratitude wash over you and become one with the birds, the trees and the bee’s and cease to be separate as you breathe.
